Salim Idris was the top US-backed rebel commander in Syria and the one who was receiving arms shipments and other equipment from the US and its allies. In a classic case of blowback, Idris was chased out of Syria by his more militant Islamic rivals and all his weaponry ended up in the hands of exactly the people the US said it would not arm. In the latest reports, Idris is now claiming he didn't really leave Syria - guess he is merely taking a forced vacation.
