The origins of the Koch Brothers' empire can be found in Joseph Stalin's Soviet Union. The father of the Koch Brothers, Fred C. Koch, helped the murderous tyrant Stalin build up the Soviet oil industry during the 1930's. The Koch patriarch then took the money he made from the Soviets, returned to the United States, and built his own oil empire worth over $200 million dollars. Fred C. Koch then founded The John Birch Society, a far-right white supremacist organization that, among other things, claimed that racial integration would create a "mongrel race" of Americans. This is the kind of racial and political atmosphere the Koch Brothers grew up in and they have continued—and expanded upon—their father's racist, far-right agenda: voter suppression, institutionalized racism, privatization, mass incarceration, climate warming denial, deregulation, re-segregation, etc.
