Sirius XM, the satellite radio broadcaster, fired one of its most prominent talk-show hosts last week over a series of comments on Twitter that included racist and sexist language.
Anthony Cumia, of the duo Opie and Anthony, wrote a series of Twitter messages early on Wednesday that drew wide condemnation online. Saying that he had been assaulted by a black woman after taking pictures in Times Square, Mr. Cumia, who is white, attacked her in a barrage of profanities. “This was an animal,” he wrote. “I shoulda smashed it’s face.”RELATED STORY: Fans petition SiriusXM to reinstate popular shock jock
Sirius XM, which has been broadcasting “Opie & Anthony” since 2004, said in a statement that it had dismissed Mr. Cumia on Thursday “after careful consideration of his racially charged and hate-filled remarks,” adding that Mr. Cumia’s behavior was “wholly inconsistent with what Sirius XM represents.”
