In one article, Edmonds raised many issues, one key issue being: How is it that every major whistleblower over the past ten years was harassed, prosecuted, labeled a traitor and chased into exile (like Edward Snowden) and/or placed on trial and jailed, yet Greenwald gets rewarded with an instant multimillion dollar book deal and a fully bankrolled "progressive" media empire?
Edmonds recounts episodes in Greenwald's career that suggests that, far from being a maverick outsider, Greenwald has operated as an insider and gatekeeper who has played by the rules of the power elites. Edmonds says Greenwald has had dozens of meetings with NSA, CIA and FBI representatives during which, she suggests, he promised to stick to the issue of the NSA's illegal spying, leaving off limits other important secrets. Edmonds also questions why only 1 percent of the NSA documents leaked to Greenwald by Edward Snowden have been released so far.
Edmond describes how Greenwald played along with a US propaganda game in which Greenwald wrote about Arabs who were labeled "terrorists" and were challenging US state secrets privilege laws in court. Greenwald, Edmonds claims, was advised to focus on the cases involving Arabs but ignore the cases involving Americans because "Arabs would be perceived as less sympathetic" and new laws on state secrets privilege would be less likely to pass. Greenwald went along with this un-written rule and dropped the Americans from his writings. Edmonds goes on to name some of the Americans Greenwald wiped from history.
Edmonds says that when she kept emailing Greenwald and asking him why he dropped the Americans from the history of state secrets privilege cases Greenwald finally responded with "Go away bitch!" Recently Greenwald has called her "stupid and crazy" and has even accused her of being a "truther," according to Edmonds. Edmonds also argues Greenwald has played "checkbook journalism" and placed the information about NSA spying "up for auction" to the highest bidder.
