Municipal Court Judge Donald McCullin, who was appointed in June, also changed the conditions for pretrial release. According to a press release put out by Ferguson, all defendants will be given new court dates with alternative penalties like payment plans or community service.

In March, a U.S. Justice Department civil rights investigation found that Ferguson police and the city's municipal court engaged in a "pattern and practice" of discrimination against African-Americans.

Those issues didn't necessarily go away with the Justice Department report's release. An exclusive CNNMoney analysis earlier this month found the city was still pumping out thousands of new arrest warrants and jailing people over minor offenses.

Michael Brown Memorial Tree Cut Down by Racists Less Than 24 Hours After Dedication

By David Edwards
A tree planted to memorialize the death of teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri was reportedly chopped in half this week less than 24 hours after it was dedicated.

According to KMOV, the Black Caucus of the American Library Association dedicated the tree in a Ferguson park over the weekend. But by Sunday morning, it had been cut down, and only the trunk was left standing.

Authorities said that a stone memorial that had been dedicated with the tree was also missing.

Members of the Black Library Association who gathered on Saturday said that they wanted the tree to be a “symbol of peace and comfort and hope for all who gather under its branches.”

Outrage After City of Ferguson Releases Racist Emails Written by Government Officials

Emails sent and received by Ferguson's former court clerk as well as two former supervisors in the police department offer further evidence of the systemic racism that coursed through the city where black 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot dead by white police officer Darren Wilson last year.

The e-mails, released to The Washington Post in response to a public-records request, were referenced in a report by the U.S. Department of Justice that led to the dismissal and resignation of several senior city officials last month.

According to the Post, the messages "were sent and received by Mary Ann Twitty, who was Ferguson's court clerk, as well as former Ferguson police captain Rick Henke and former police sergeant William Mudd. All three were removed from their jobs after the Department of Justice discovered the e-mails, which prompted an internal investigation by city officials. The unredacted versions show for the first time which employee sent which e-mails."

For example, the Post reports:
Several of the e-mails focus on President Obama, and the majority of them speak disparagingly of him or minorities more broadly.

In a message dated Tuesday, April 19, 2011, Twitty forwarded a message titled “Very Rare Photo” that included an image of former president Ronald Reagan feeding a baby monkey. Beneath the photo is the caption: “Rare photo of Ronald Reagan babysitting Barack Obama in early 1962.”
Responding to the revelations, journalist Shaun King wrote at Daily Kos: "What they show is a deeply disturbing strain of racism that was socially acceptable among essential government employees who not only interacted with African Americans consistently in the majority black town of Ferguson, but were in positions of power in which they could make life miserable for the people they clearly disdained."

What's more, King asked: "Why was Twitty fired, but Henke and Mudd were allowed to resign when they all three did essentially the same thing?"

St. Louis Alderman Antonio French told the Post that the full content of the emails further prove that change is needed in Ferguson.

"What it shows is that a culture existed and was allowed to fester in Ferguson municipal government and Ferguson Police Department," he said. "What we have seen so far is a few voluntary resignations but not a full acceptance of responsibility for that culture that has been allowed to exist in that municipal government. Even after the DOJ report . . . there is still a lot of work to be done and it still remains to be seen whether the people who remain in power will be the ones to make the change."

Agent Provocateurs in Ferguson?: Two Police Officers Shot From Long Range With Handgun — CNN Calling Shooter an 'Expert'

When examining a crime experienced investigators always ask the same questions: Who had the motive, who had the means, and who had the opportunity. The city manager, a judge, and the police chief resigned, and police officers have been fired in the wake of a scathing Justice Department report about racism in the Ferguson police department. Therefore, protesters were winning on the issue of racism in Ferguson. So who stood to gain by changing the subject from "racist policing" to "police officers are victims"? Meanwhile, CNN has referred to the shooter as an "expert." The police officers were shot by a handgun from over 100 yards away.—Ronald David Jackson

Two police officers suffered "very serious" wounds after being shot early Thursday during a demonstration in Ferguson, Missouri, authorities said.

Videos appear to show shooting of cops in Ferguson

Gunfire rang out as about 50 protesters and about 30 police officers remained outside the Ferguson Police Department shortly after midnight local time (1 a.m. ET) at a dwindling rally following the resignation of the embattled force's chief.

St. Louis County Police Chief John Belmar said that it appeared that at least three shots were "directed exactly at" the officers.

Ferguson's Official Criminals Running For Cover: Judge, City Manager and Police Chief Resign — What About The Prosecutor?

Attorney General Holder seems to have played the same game with Ferguson's racist criminals as he has with Wall Street's criminals: Let them all go free.  Numerous Wall Street criminals stole tens of billions of dollars and smashed the global economy — Holder let them pay "settlements" and refused to indict any of them. Holder didn't indict any of the criminals in Ferguson either. Instead, they have simply resigned or in some cases, were allowed to keep their jobs.  Will any of the blacks who were harassed, beaten or jailed by this cabal of criminals get to go home from jail? Will any of them get back any of the millions they paid out in bogus fines and fees?—Ronald David Jackson

Squad of Racist Criminals: Starting from the far left - City Manager John Shaw, Police Chief Thomas Jackson, Judge
Roy  Richter, and Prosecutor Robert P. McCulloch. Shaw presided over the operation that used bogus fines and fees to
make money off of Ferguson's black residents; Jackson helped cover up Michael Brown's murder and leaked a video of Brown stealing cigars claiming that members of the press demanded it (they all said they didn't), Richter concocted the scheme of inflicting the punishing regime of fines and fees against Fergerson's black residents, McCulloch used a
variety of tactics during the grand jury hearings to make sure killer cop Darren Wilson was not indicted, including
placing a known racist psycho in front of the grand jury knowing she would tell lies in favor of Darren Wilson.
McCulloch has yet to resign.

Jackson, 57, becomes the third top city official to leave following the Justice Department's investigation that found systemic racial bias by police and court officials. Judge Ronald Brockmeyer and City Manager John Shaw resigned earlier this week.

Lt. Col. Al Eickhoff will serve ask acting chief until the city completes a nationwide search for a new police chief, the city said in a press release. Jackson will receive a severance payment and health insurance for one year.

That Justice Department's review found Ferguson Police Department engaged in a broad pattern of racially biased enforcement that permeated the city's justice system, including the use of unreasonable force against African American suspects. The report also criticized the city's municipal court system.

Ferguson Prosecutor Should Have Been Indicted for Putting A Known Psycho and Liar before the Grand Jury which Failed to Indict Cop Who Killed Michael Brown

Witness told grand jury that Michael Brown "ran toward the police officer like a football player." She wasn't even there. She was mentally disturbed and known for posting racist comments on YouTube and Facebook. She even helped raise money for the officer — a clear conflict of interest.  The prosecutor must have known these facts, but he placed the "witness" before the grand jury anyway — to back up the police officer's claim of self-defense.

Prosecutor Robert P. McCulloch: A fraud who placed a mentally disturbed racist (who
wasn't even there when the killing of Michale Brown took place) before the grand jury in
an effort to make sure a killer cop was not indicted for the murder of Michael Brown.

The U.S. Department of Justice investigative report on the Ferguson Police Department released on March 4 put into new perspective a key police witness who testified to the St. Louis County Grand jury and federal investigators about Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson’s fatal shooting of Michael Brown Jr. on August 9.
RELATED STORY Ku Klux Klan Infiltrated FL Police Dept — One Cop Resigns, the Other Gets Fired After FBI Inquiry
The DoJ review of emails provided by the Ferguson Police Department turned up a series of jokes about African Americans (including the president and first lady) that has led to one termination and two resignations.

One of the two veteran Ferguson police commanders who resigned on Thursday, March 5, Sgt. William Mudd, was the first police supervisor on the scene at Canfield Drive following the fatal shooting on August 9 and the first person to speak to Wilson about the event.
RELATED STORY: Fundraising Site for Ferguson Cop Who Killed Michael Brown Saturated By Racist Comments By Donors — Site Censors the Comments
Mudd testified to the grand jury on September 16. The witness’ name is redacted in the transcripts provided to the public by St. Louis County Prosecutor Robert P. McCulloch. However, the Ferguson police sergeant who testified to interviewing Wilson soon after the shooting also testified about his own role shooting and killing a threat at St. Louis County Courthouse in 1992, for which Mudd was awarded a Medal of Valor. Mudd also belatedly filled out an incident report about Wilson’s fatal shooting of Brown, which confirms this witness is Mudd.

Sgt. Mudd resigned on Thursday, according to the Post-Dispatch, following his identification as the police commander responsible for emailing one of the jokes about black people circulated within the Ferguson Police Department. Mudd reportedly was responsible for emailing (in May 2011) a joke about CrimeStoppers paying a black woman to have an abortion. The DoJ noted that no one at the time was censured for circulating the racial jokes, which in fact tended to be forwarded to others approvingly.

Parasitic Ferguson Judge Behind 'Make Money Off Blacks With Fines' Program Owes $170,000 in Unpaid Taxes

Ronald J Brockmeyer, who is accused of fixing traffic tickets for himself and associates, was a driving force behind using fines and fees to generate revenue

The judge in Ferguson, Missouri, who is accused of fixing traffic tickets for himself and colleagues while inflicting a punishing regime of fines and fees on the city’s residents, also owes more than $170,000 in unpaid taxes.

Ronald J Brockmeyer, whose court allegedly jailed impoverished defendants unable to pay fines of a few hundred dollars, has a string of outstanding debts to the US government dating back to 2007, according to tax filings obtained by the Guardian from authorities in Missouri.

Brockmeyer, 70, was this week singled out by Department of Justice investigators as being a driving force behind Ferguson’s strategy of using its municipal court to aggressively generate revenues. The policy has been blamed for a breakdown in relations between the city’s overwhelmingly white authorities and residents, two-thirds of whom are African American.

Investigators found Brockmeyer had boasted of creating a range of new court fees, “many of which are widely considered abusive and may be unlawful”. A city councilman opposing the judge’s reappointment was warned “switching judges would/could lead to loss of revenue”.

Brockmeyer, who has been Ferguson’s municipal court judge for 12 years, serves simultaneously as a prosecutor in two nearby cities and as a private attorney. Legal experts said his potentially conflicting interests illustrate a serious problem in the region’s judicial system. Brockmeyer, who reportedly earns $600 per shift as a prosecutor, said last year his dual role benefited defendants. “I see both sides of it,” he said. “I think it’s even better.”

While Brockmeyer owes the US government $172,646 in taxes, his court in Ferguson is at the centre of a class-action federal lawsuit that alleges Ferguson repeatedly “imprisoned a human being solely because the person could not afford to make a monetary payment”.

NYPD Union Leader Loses His Battle With Mayor de Blasio: Gives Up On 'Apology' Demand, Reeling From Backlash and Lack of Police Support

By lipris
I guess we should have seen this coming. There have been reports of PBA members tearing Lynch a new one over his apology demand and just days ago we saw that Quinnipiac poll show Lynch with a rather Dick Cheney-esque 18% approval rating. Only 850 of the PBA’s 23,000 members signed Lynch’s stupid “stay away from my funeral, Mr. de Blasio” petition.

The final straw really seems to have been the horribly ill-advised move of having uniformed NYPD officers disregard the wishes of the families of those two murdered cops and turn their backs on the mayor. That went over like a lead brick and really seemed to swing public opinion against the PBA in general and Lynch in particular.

It seems Lynch and a coterie of halfwits in his inner circle forgot that de Blasio, who ran for mayor on a platform that quite prominently featured promises to reform the way the NYPD does business, won with well over 70% of the vote. This whole stupid showdown has been a disaster for the PBA and it was such a dumb unforced error. The cops are still working without a contract, which is ridiculous. They should have one. They should have a good one. Strategic screwups like this aren’t helping rank and file PBA members.

Patrolmen's Benevolent Association head Patrick Lynch in for a fight to keep his job, and may deserve to lose

By Juan Gonzalez
Police union boss Patrick Lynch could soon be fighting for his own survival. Dissidents in the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association are preparing a campaign to unseat Lynch in the union’s June election — the first such challenge to his leadership since 2003.

“Pat does a lot of yelling and screaming, but there’s never a solution, and in the meantime the police officer’s life keeps getting worse,” one insurgent told the Daily News.

The group will unveil its opposition slate — including some of the PBA’s current leadership — later this month, a source said.

Lynch has been tossing verbal jabs at Mayor de Blasio ever since a Staten Island grand jury decided not to indict Officer Daniel Pantaleo in the July chokehold death of Eric Garner. After the Dec. 20 assassination of Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, Lynch recklessly charged their blood was on the mayor’s hands. And then, many suspect, he triggered a two-week arrest-and-summons slowdown by his members.

But fissures within the union are becoming apparent. First came the anemic response to a letter Lynch issued on the PBA website asking cops to bar the mayor and Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito from their funerals if they were killed on the job. Only 4% of cops have signed it, sources told The News.

How I Will I Prepare My White Son for the Interactions He WON'T Have With Police

This article was originally published by Waging Nonviolence.
By Frida Berrigan
“I’m a mother of three children, two of which are black boys. I fear for the lives of my sons. My daughter, my youngest, is six years old. When she looks at a police officer, she’s afraid. She’s not looking at them as somebody who’s there to protect and serve her.”

That’s what a woman named Rodrice Vincent shared with a Democracy Now reporter in Times Square last week when she was asked why she was out in the streets, protesting the grand jury decision to not indict Officer Daniel Pantaleo in the death of Eric Garner, an African American father and grandfather from Staten Island.

The police’s confrontation with Garner was captured on cell phone cameras. In that footage, you can see him expressing — with outrage and hand gestures, but no violence or aggression — his frustration at what he termed police harassment before he is set on by three or four officers, who wrestle him to the ground after Pantaleo puts him in a choke hold. He died and the New York City medical examiner ruled his death a homicide.

“I fear for the lives of my sons.”

That constant, bone deep, existential fear of harm or death at the hands of law enforcement is shared by so many mothers and fathers in this country — men and women of color who have never had a positive interaction with a person wearing a police officer’s uniform.

In the wake of the Ferguson and Staten Island killings, the failures of the justice system to hold officers accountable for murder, and the nationwide wave of almost entirely nonviolent protest that have ensued, a lot of police are talking now about how hard their jobs are, their own daily fears, and the blowback they face on the streets. I feel for them as people — but they can take off their uniforms at the end of the day; Rodrice Vincent’s sons can’t take off their skin.

Her fear struck me so deeply. I have a son too. But he is a tow-headed white toddler. He waves and smiles at police as we go about our days. And they wave back. I will not have to have “the talk” with Seamus that so many African American mothers have with their sons.

In essence, “the talk” is a harsh lesson in how to survive interactions with police. Marlowe Thomas-Tulloch, an early childhood educator, had the talk with her black son. She said: “The first time we had the talk, it was too hard. I had to be honest about the truth: If the police stop you, you need to be humble. You need to be prepared to be humiliated. Take your hands out your pockets. I would rather pick you up from the police department, than from the morgue.”

Seamus’ whiteness means that I don’t have to teach him how to prepare for humiliation. That is white privilege in a nutshell.

In an event organized by The Ethics Project and the YWCA at the Missouri History Museum, a panel of eight African American women shared their experiences of having “the talk” with their sons and grandsons. Riisa Renee Easley related this message to her son: “Life is not fair. Pull your pants up; tighten your belt. You will never speak like that to an adult.” She told the audience that her son is stopped all the time by the police in his own neighborhood. “He learned early about ‘the description’ that he constantly fit. I would see my young man come home with rage and pain and anger.”

That is what racism does. A mother watches the world hurt her son — even if he remains physically unscathed, unarrested, unbeaten, unharrassed — so far. A sigh of relief, a respite, until the next time he leaves the circle of protection inside her home. Every day she sees the weight of racism and hatred on her beloved son’s shoulders, in the crease between his eyebrows. She hears it in his sighs and feels it in his weariness.

I listened to these women’s stories with a breaking heart. I do not fear for my son in that way. At all. Ever. In fact, I revel in his exploration of the world, in his new boldness with people, in his willingness to push the boundaries, in his enthusiasm for interaction with everyone he encounters.

It is so marvelous! And it is so unjust that every mother’s son does not — and cannot — rollick and explore and be themselves out in the world.

I was afraid of police when I was a kid because they arrested my parents at anti-war actions and demonstrations. They came to our house sometimes looking for peace activists who hadn’t shown up for court. More than once, I saw my dad get roughed up by police after throwing blood or spray painting the pillars at the Pentagon. It was terrifying. But, he’d see me watching and blow me a kiss or give me a wink to let me know he was ok. I knew my dad would not be beaten, I knew he would be released, and I knew that he was doing what he thought needed to be done.

All these years later, the residue of fear is still there. I have seen police officers misuse their power. I have seen them act in ways that “protect and serve” power rather than people. I am grateful for these experiences. It puts me one small step closer to what Rodrice Vincent and Marlowe Thomas-Tulloch and Riisa Renee Easley fear. It is such a small step, but it means that I am not surprised by their fear in the way many white people in that Missouri audience were. And that is important.

Assata Henderson, another panelist, directed her comments at the white mothers in the audience and those (like me) who listened online: “While our talk with our sons is about surviving, what are you, the mothers of police officers, judges and CEOs talking about with your sons?”

That is the question for me. My son isn’t a police officer or a judge or a CEO — not yet. But I am the mother of a white boy — an effusive, dynamic, gentle, kind toddler, who was born with so much privilege.

He will need to hear a very different version of “the talk” than these women gave their sons. So, my husband and I will talk to our white son about structural inequity, racism, systematic disenfranchisement, state-sponsored and state-sanctioned violence. We will talk to him about whiteness. We will use lots of big words. But, most of our talk can’t be with words. It will have to be our actions, our example to teach lessons about empathy, solidarity and the work of putting our power and privilege as white people to use in the service of others.

FERGUSON COVERUP: Office Darren Wilson Video Taped In Action — Is THIS the Kind of Cop Who Would Be Afraid of Michael Brown?

Officer Darren Wilson sees himself as a "bad-ass" who won't tolerate any backtalk. In this video, Wilson gets physical with Mike Arman because he doesn't like backtalk and he doesn't want to be video taped. He then tells a different story in the police report (see below). Watch the video tape: Does this look like a man who would be trembling in fear of Michael Brown??

The killing of Michael Brown was about a police officer, Darren Wilson, who gets angry with two black youths who are "jaywalking". They didn't follow Darren Wilson's command to get out of the street immediately.  Wilson's response was to "Go Rambo" and swing his patrol car around and block the street to confront the two teens — now one of them is dead. Officer Darren Wilson didn't kill out of fear, he killed out of anger and hate.
—Ronald David Jackson
"Most police departments adopt a “continuum of force” policy to maximize the likelihood that an officer’s response will be commensurate with a suspect’s actions. Policies differ slightly among departments. But the typical sequence used by police to gain control of a suspect is as follows: voice commands, use of hands, chemical agents, baton, canine, less-than-lethal projectiles, deadly force. Officer Wilson, though, went first for his gun."Boston Globe Editorial
Note: There is growing evidence that Darren Wilson hid his duty belt after killing Michael Brown (which would have had pepper spray, a stun gun and other items attached to it), in an attempt to hide the fact that he had other alternatives—besides a gun—at his disposal to defend against Michael Brown's "attack".

Ferguson Prosecutor is a Fraud: Not a Single Prosecution of a Shooting by Police in His 23 Years on the Job

Prosecutor Bob McCulloch’s Record On Prosecuting Police Shootings: "Four times he presented evidence to a grand jury in such a case and didn’t get an indictment; now he can add a fifth."

Prosecutor Robert P. McCulloch: Everyone who understands the grand jury system
knows "you can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich" if you wanted to. McCulloch
was the man responsible for presenting a weak case to the grand jury so that Darren
Wilson would not be indicted for the murder of Michael Brown. During the grand jury
proceedings McCulloch illegally leaked secret grand jury testimony to the media in an
attempt to assassinate the character of the victim, Michael Brown — proof he wasn't
serious about getting an indictment of killer cop Darren Wilson. The black citizens of
Ferguson wanted McCulloch to recuse himself from the case because he has many
family members who work for the police and his policeman father was killed in the
line of duty by a black person. McCulloch insisted on staying on as prosecutor - some
believe he was seeking revenge for his father's death.

Bob McCulloch’s pathetic prosecution of Darren Wilson

By Dana Milbank
Ferguson reminds us that we still have a race problem in America. But the face of this problem is not Darren Wilson’s. It’s Bob McCulloch’s.

Wilson, the Missouri police officer who shot and killed an unarmed black teenager, is the target of most public ire. But no responsible person thought Wilson’s killing of Michael Brown was premeditated. Even if prosecutors tried him on lesser charges of involuntary manslaughter, they might well have come up empty – and most people would have accepted that result of a fair trial.

What causes the outrage, and the despair, is the joke of a grand-jury proceeding run under the auspices of McCulloch, the St. Louis County prosecutor. In September, I wrote that it appeared he wasn’t even trying to get an indictment; he had a long record of protecting police in such cases, and his decision not to recommend a specific charge to the grand jury essentially guaranteed there would be no indictment.

When McCulloch announced the inevitable result Monday night, he prefaced it by blaming the press and social media for whipping up emotions in the case with inaccurate information. He went on to ridicule witnesses who had given inconsistent testimony. He hid behind the grand jurors, as if he hadn’t orchestrated their decision with the finesse of conductor Christoph Eschenbach: “Anyone suggesting that somehow it’s just not a full and fair process is just unfair to these people” who “gave up their lives” to deliberate.

McCulloch essentially acknowledged that his team was serving as Wilson’s defense lawyers, noting that prosecutors “challenged” and “confronted” witnesses by pointing out previous statements and evidence that discredited their accounts. “Physical evidence does not change because of public pressure or personal agenda,” McCulloch lectured piously. “Physical evidence does not look away as events unfold.”

Killer Cop NOT Indicted by Ferguson Grand Jury for Killing of Michael Brown — Surprised??

Ferguson Officer Darren Wilson: Looks like he'll be free to enjoy that $500,000-plus
that the white supremacists donated to him
(via crowd funding) for the killing of Michael
Brown. He'll likely be treated like a hero and rewarded with job opportunities throughout
the United States.
_________

Cop Who Killed Michael Brown Had No Visible Injuries After the Shooting — New Videos Show: Propaganda About Darren Wilson's Injuries Proven False

Not only does the newly released video show Darren Wilson had no facial injuries (and certainly no bandages on his face), but Wilson seemed to have no injuries at all. He shows no injuries or bandages on his face, arms, wrists, or hands either going to the hospital or coming from the hospital.

Darren Wilson returns from hospital (left), Darren Wilson on way to hospital (middle, right).
Screen captures from newly released video shows that, contrary to earlier reports,
Darren Wilson appears to have suffered no injuries whatsoever.

This was the photograph provided to the grand jury which was supposed to "prove"
the existence of the facial injuries suffered by Darren Wilson's at the hands of Michael
Brown: Apparently jury members were supposed to stare at the photo and imagine the
injuries.

By Ronald David Jackson
Soon after Michael Brown was killed by officer Darren Wilson, tt was reported that Darren Wilson suffered a "fractured eye socket" after a "scuffle" with Michael Brown. The Washington Post said their source was a family friend of Wilson's. ABC reported that a "source" claimed Wilson suffered a "serious facial injury". NBC suggested Wilson suffered injuries when they reported that Wilson was "taken to the hospital" after his encounter with Michael Brown. There was even some psychological warfare, when a bogus photograph of Darren Wilson severely injured in a hospital bed went viral. CNN labeled reports of a fractured eye socket false.

Did Cop Who Killed Michael Brown Have History of Lying & Abuse?: Video Suggests He Lied in Police Report About Arrest of Man Who Video Taped Him (Video)

Darren Wilson doesn't like to be video taped.

Darren Wilson: "...Take a picture of me one more time, I'm a lock your ass up."
Mike Arman: "Sir, do I not have the right to record?" — Darren Wilson: "No you don't."

The video seems to tell a different story from what Darren Wilson
provided in his police report

Excerpt from Darren Wilson's police report of the incident leading to arrest of man who video taped him.

1) Darren Wilson did not advise the individual that a voice recording would be acceptable.

2) The individual did not have his camera in Darren Wilson's face.

3) The individual was not ordered to get off the porch and place his hands behind his back before he was arrested.

Hysteria Over Ferguson Grand Jury an Indictment of America

Michael Brown, Sr. - Discusses Moving St. Louis Forward

By
The national hysteria over the Ferguson grand jury is a fresh indictment of America. The core issue is a charge of police brutality by a white officer shooting an unarmed black 18-year-old man. Yet all around the country, the talk is about black violence.

Here in Boston, police are sending out robocalls to public school students and sending messages to college students to stay calm. In Oakland, California, businesses are putting steel plates on their doors. In Los Angeles, Police Chief Charlie Beck said he hopes to get advance notice from Missouri authorities about whether or not the grand jury indicts Ferguson officer Darren Wilson for Brown’s shooting. And in Ferguson, some schools are already closed in anticipation of the decision, gun sales have skyrocketed and a state of emergency was declared by Missouri Governor Jay Nixon.

To be sure, Attorney General Eric Holder and many black clergy have also asked for police restraint for any protests after the grand jury decision is announced. But such balanced pleas have been drowned out by the drama of an FBI warning that the grand jury’s decision “will likely be exploited by some individuals to justify threats and attacks against law enforcement and critical infrastructure.” The memo said people “could be armed with bladed weapons or firearms, equipped with tactical gear/gas masks, or bulletproof vests to mitigate law enforcement measures.”

Meanwhile, police restraint is hard to come by.

The New York Times Assassinates Michael Brown: Publish Prosecutor's Leaks They Know Is Propaganda
“Good police reporters know when they’re being used by the police. Bad police reporters also know when they’re being used by the police but they eagerly report whatever the police want them to report."—Lawrence O'Donnell, MSNBC

The Ferguson prosecutor and his enablers at CNN and the New York Times would fail a lie detector test.

By Margaret Kimberle, BAR
Eighteen year old Michael Brown man was shot to death by police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri on August 9, 2014. Because the people of Ferguson rose up in protest, his death did not disappear as is often the case with black victims of police violence. Newspapers and television networks from all over the world cover the continuing protests as a grand jury deliberates Wilson’s fate.

The coverage has varied greatly in quality, with the New York Times faring the worst among the major corporate media outlets. The Times alternately casts aspersions on Brown’s character and relies on law enforcement leaks which make it appear that Wilson acted appropriately when he shot a fleeing, unarmed young man. The result is justification for racist murder.

One of the newspaper’s African American reporters, John Eligon, began a profile of Brown by stating that he was “no angel” who performed “vulgar” rap music lyrics, “dabbled in drugs and alcohol” and got into scuffles. Even the Times public editor conceded that the words “no angel” were “a regrettable mistake.” In another profile, Wilson was called “well mannered”, “relatively soft spoken” and “bland.” There was no mention of his musical tastes or recreational activities, and no judgments made about his character.

But the worst case scenario has happened not once, but twice with New York Times reporters reporting law enforcement leaks as if they are factual and making the case that Wilson was justified in shooting Brown. An August 19, 2014 Times headline claimed that eyewitnesses to the shooting gave accounts which conflicted with another and which also implied Brown threatened Wilson after he fled.

That headline is easily proven to be untrue. Every witness to the shooting has been consistent. All say that Brown and Wilson had a physical altercation through the patrol car window. They all say that a shot or shots were fired inside the car. They all say that Brown fled while Wilson continued to shoot at him. They all say that Brown turned towards Wilson while already wounded and that Wilson continued to shoot him as he fell. One bullet struck Brown in the top of his skull and another in one of his eyes.

“The Times headline claimed that eyewitnesses to the shooting gave accounts which conflicted with another and which also implied Brown threatened Wilson after he fled.”

These accounts and Brown’s autopsy were all public by the time the August article appeared. Witnesses spoke on air to MSNBC and CNN and to the New York Times as well. It should not have been difficult to give a clear and accurate account of their words. There was a justifiable uproar over this story which led to the Times public editor again agreeing with critics because reporters made claims they couldn’t verify and that they didn’t emphasize enough their reliance on interested parties.

Did reporters Frances Robles and Michael S. Schmidt speak to Wilson, Wilson’s attorney, the Ferguson police department, the justice department, local prosecutors, or all of the above? MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell gave this assessment of the Times article. “Good police reporters know when they’re being used by the police. Bad police reporters also know when they’re being used by the police but they eagerly report whatever the police want them to report.”

Not content to happily be used in the cause of injustice, on October 17, 2014 reporters Michael S. Schmidt, Matt Apuzzo and Julie Bosman continued to flack in Darren Wilson’s interest. This time they repeat Wilson’s account without analysis or the information already made public which casts doubt on his story. According to the Times, Wilson says he believed his life was in danger as he and Brown struggled in the patrol car. It isn’t news that Wilson and Brown struggled, nor is it newsworthy that the officer would claim to feel endangered. But the story made it appear that the old information was new, and didn’t make it clear that Wilson fired ten more shots after Brown fled.

The net effect of the pro-Wilson bias is very simple. Schmidt, Apuzzo and Bosman conclude erroneously that there will be a “high bar” in proving a federal civil rights case against Wilson. That statement is highly debatable but it is now more likely to be true because the most powerful newspaper in the country says that it is true. Journalist Milton Allimadi points out the obvious. “Pre-attacking the federal case is the strategy. That's why the Times is being fed the information, which upon careful analyses, are not as impactful as Wilson's supporters believe and the Times' story implies.”

“Reporters made claims they couldn’t verify and that they didn’t emphasize enough their reliance on interested parties.”

The Obama administration has no interest in taking on the civil rights violations committed by police and vigilantes across the country. They may invite Trayvon Martin’s parents to the White House and show them off for effect, but they have made no effort to prosecute George Zimmerman, who is a free man. If the paper which represents the interests of the powerful says that Wilson was justified, then he will be called justified and Brown’s family will get no more justice than Martin’s did.

The Times is not alone in acting as Wilson’s defense team. As previously reported in Black Agenda Report, Charles Blow and Van Jones disgracefully made the case for Wilson on CNN and acted as a defense team for him and for all of white America. No one inside or outside of the New York Times should think they can get away with defending America’s injustice system without repercussion or comment.

The odds of the legal system bringing justice to Michael Brown’s family were always slim. They are even slimmer if the New York Times, the so-called paper of record, gives license to killer police officers. Already the poorly reported story is being repeated as gospel truth, and righteous anger is made to appear suspect.

Michael Brown was running away and already wounded when he was shot in the head and in the eye. Until the New York Times makes that clear their coverage is worthless journalistically and gives aid and comfort to American lynch law, which has never been repealed.

Autopsy Findings Leaked By Ferguson Prosecutor Was 'Taken Out of Context' and 'Misquoted'- Says Expert Who Did The Autopsy (Video)

While the pro-police media has gone wild publishing the autopsy leaks from the Ferguson prosecutor, they have been almost silent about the forensic pathologist who says her findings were taken out of context.

Judy Melinek suggested the Ferguson prosecutor's interpretation of her findings was biased. (Screen capture from MSNBC video)

findings was biased. (Screen capture from MSNBC video)

By
Judy Melinek, one of the forensic experts who was quoted by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Tuesday about the Michael Brown autopsy report, is taking issue with how the newspaper portrayed her comments.

The key piece of Melinek's analysis, according to the Post-Dispatch's original report, was that the report of Brown's autopsy "supports the fact that this guy is reaching for the gun, if he has gunpowder particulate material in the wound. If he has his hand near the gun when it goes off, he’s going for the officer’s gun.”

That would be consistent with Ferguson, Mo., police officer Darren Wilson's version of events, as reported by the New York Times and others. Melinek was also paraphrased by the newspaper saying that the autopsy was inconsistent with witness accounts of Brown having his hands up in surrender when he was shot by Wilson.

But Melinek told MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell on Wednesday that her comments had been taken "out of context" and that she believed the findings could be explained by other scenarios as well.
